| Download printable PDF version here! Men’s and Lady’s Dress Code Jacket Required: Gentlemen wear suits or sports coat and trousers, dress shirt and tie (optional). Ladies wear dresses or suits, long or short skirts, or dressy slacks and tops. Casual: Gentlemen wear dressy slacks, collared shirt, turtleneck or dressy collarless shirt with sleeves; Ladies wear skirts, dressy slacks and tops. For Gentlemen and Ladies, no jeans, no shorts, no tee shirts, no flip-flops. Upscale denim is allowed. Shorts Permitted: Gentlemen wear dressy slacks or shorts, collared shirt, turtleneck or dressy collarless shirt with sleeves; Ladies wear skirts, dressy slacks or dressy shorts and tops. For Gentlemen and Ladies, no tee shirts, no flip-flops, torn or cutoff clothing or inappropriate tee shirts. Upscale denim is allowed. Bathing Attire: Bathing suits and bathing attire are allowed outside, at the Tiki bar and in the Ready Room only. Bathing suits and bathing attire are not to be worn in the Club at any time. Men’s Club Uniform: Shall consist of navy blazer with club insignia on left breast pocket, gray slacks, white collared long -sleeve dress shirt, black shoes, black socks, black belt and black bow tie for Commodore’s Ball. Navy four in hand or Club tie may be worn at any other affair. Uniform yachting hat is worn outside only. Lady’s Club Uniform: Shall consist of navy blazer with club insignia on left breast pocket, white shirt, long gray skirt, black shoes, black or neutral stockings for Commodore’s Ball. Short grey skirt or grey pants for any other affair. Men’s Summer Uniform: Shall consist of white uniform short-sleeve shirt with epaulets; blue insignia shoulder boards on epaulets. No tie. White slacks, white shoes, white socks, white belt. Uniform yachting hat is worn outside only. Lady’s Summer Uniform: Shall consist of white uniform short-sleeve shirt with epaulets; blue insignia shoulder boards on epaulets. No tie. White skirt or pants, white shoes, white or neutral stockings, white belt. Black Tie: Gentlemen wear tuxedo; ladies wear dressy evening attire. Special Attire: For special and theme events see Currents for dress code. Annual Meeting: The Bridge, Directors and all others invited to sit at the head table shall wear Men’s or Lady’s Club Uniform. The slate of potential directors shall wear Men’s or Lady’s Club Uniform. Commodores Ball: Bridge, Flag Officers and Past Commodores to wear Club Uniform, all others may wear Club Uniform, Tuxedo or Jacket and tie. New Years Eve: Black tie. Candlelight Ball: Black tie. Blessing of the Fleet: Dress for Captains, First Mates, and all members riding in boats: VYC Summer uniform. Headgear: VYC ball caps for all except current Flag Officers and Past Commodores who will wear VYC uniform yachting cap. Lady’s may substitute white skirt or white Bermuda shorts. White hats are appropriate. Flag Pole Ceremonies: Summer Uniform or as requested by the Commodore. Flag Officers and Past Commodores will wear VYC uniform yachting hat. Those in accompaniment (husbands, wives and significant others) are requested to wear all white. Slacks are preferred over shorts. Funerals: The Bridge, Directors, Flag Officers and Past Commodores shall wear Men’s or Lady’s Club Uniform or other attire as directed by the Commodore. SUMMER DRESS CODE: Hat Etiquette: Only Commodore, Past Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore, Secretary, Fleet Surgeon and Fleet Captains shall wear uniform yachting hat. Hats should never be worn inside the Club. Saluting Etiquette: To salute when wearing hat- display hand to hat salute. Reference: VYC Rules and Regulations Venice Yacht Club- Insignia and Name Tag Etiquette Club Insignia: May be worn by any member of VYC. Shall be worn on left breast pocket of navy blazer. F.C.Y.C. Insignia (Council 13): May be worn by any member of a Yacht Club in the F.C.Y.C. VYC is a member of the F.C.Y.C. The insignia shall be worn on left sleeve of navy blazer, bottom of insignia shall be 5 inches above end of left sleeve on navy blazer and centered along third finger of left hand. The Fouled Anchor Insignia may be worn in place of F.C.Y.C. Insignia only by F.C.Y.C. Officers, Past Officers, Delegates, and Fleet Captains. Officer’s Insignia: Worn by Commodore, Vice Commodore, and Rear Commodore. Officer’s Star Pins: Shall be worn above insignia on left breast pocket of navy blazer. Other Insignia: Secretary, Fleet captain, Fleet Surgeon, and Chaplain- Same location as officer’s insignia. Name Tags: Shall be worn on navy blazer above right breast pocket. Reference: F.C.Y.C. Manual VYC Burgee: Any member may fly the burgee. The burgee shall be flown from bow staff on mast less and single masted power vessels, flown from the main mast starboard lower spreader on sailboats. Burgee Sizes: Boats under 20 ft.- 10” x 15” burgee Boats over 20 ft.- 12” x 18” burgee F.C.Y.C. Burgee: The number 13 signifies the 13 charter clubs. Any member of a Yacht Club in the Council may fly it. Reference: F.C.Y.C. Manual Burgee Store: Please visit the Burgee Store located behind the reception desk for most if not all of your VYC attire.
